wasted joke...probably a bad one, anyway.
Last week, second day of twentieth century american lit class, we had a reading quiz. He'd told us we'd have one every class, but this first one was kind of a "ok, here's what to expect from these, don't get your panties in a wad, it's not for real" kind of thing. So, at the top of the quiz, it said "This is not a quiz." Next sentence: "This is not your name." I thought it was a pretty cute idea and wanted to play along, so I wrote "Hansetta die Straße"...since my real name is Jonette Larrew...which sounds like, and is probably an american mutlilation of the French "la rue," which means "the street"...just like "die Straße" in German.

Since "This was not a quiz," he didn't take them up, and since he didn't get the chance to appreciate my lame humour, I'm recording it for as posterity as you can get online, here. Not doing myself any favors, I bet.

J.H. Larrew
