Phone Whackin' MAD!!!!

I usually don't let myself get worked up but I'm EXTREMELY pissed off at the moment!

I'm pissed off with my phone company. The same people are my internet providers, (the only ones in my area) and therefore I'm not sure if I'll be online this time next month. (Or even have a phone for that matter)

I opened my phonebill last night and was unpleasantly surprised to see $187.77 in long distance overseas charges. Two calls to the same number, made 2 weeks apart, for 52 nondiscounted minutes, to somewhere in Africa or Asia (nobody can tell me for sure). Yippee! I've NEVER phoned Africa or Asia in my life!

I've asked my guys and they've assured me they didn't make any long distance phonecalls (African, Asian or otherwise), nor did they click on anything they shouldn't have while on the internet. I KNOW for a fact I didn't make those phonecalls or agree to anything while online. One of the two calls apparently was made while I was helping VW with the Spree! We're on dial up so if we're online then we can't phone out unless it's on the cell phone. (that deals with another phone company)

This whole situation really stinks to me. It's fraud! Pure and simple. We didn't call the number nor did we agree to anything over the net...yet my phone company says I'm responsible because the two calls are on my bill.

They're very sympathic, saying they see this all the time. Apparently just by visiting a site our movements on the net can be tracked and redialers (or something) can be "installed" on our computers, (without our even knowing it), and then these redialers phone long distance on their own. It's all perfectly legal and saps like me are expected to pay because it's on my bill and I'm responsible for anything printed on my bill...whether we made the calls or not. Well no fuckin' way! Sorry folks. You don't usually hear me swear but I'm as mad as Hell right now. This is stealing.

I've had an excellent credit rating with my financial institutions upping my credit limit and issuing me platinum cards for years now. I'm prepared to have all that damaged if need be. I'll be having my phone disconnected too if they insist I pay for calls I never made. That will kick me off the net because as far as I know they're the only phone company that provides internet access in my area. Crap! I'll know better Monday when a manager from the phone company is expected to call me. I'm NOT paying for calls I didn't make.

I guess in the meantime I'll just keep muttering and staring at my phone bill while I continue fuming. (I might even have an eye twitch thingy going on. Not very sexy huh?)
