Jots of thoughts as they flit through the rummage of my mind.

A life worth telling?
Christmas has always been a special time in my life. I grew up in a home knowing that we didn't have much financially, but never realizing how poor we were until my teen years. Poor or not, my parents made Christmas a singular, enjoyable time for us children. Each Christmas Day, we knew that wonderful surprises awaited us.

I wanted Christmas to be as special for my children and grandchildren, but as our family has grown, our income has decreased. We face another Christmas, and I have no money for gifts. Searching my mind for ideas, the thought, suggested by a friend, kept popping up, no matter how often or how hard I pressed it back down: Why not write a book to help your family remember you, share some of your favorite memories, poetry, recipes, pictures?

Ah, no one would want anything like that. My life wouldn't be interesting to anyone else. I want something to give that would allow the recipient to be pleased. The idea, however, kept pushing to be considered. Finally, I thought, "Why not?"

I'm now in the process of preparing that book, titled "Bits and Pieces of Me" with a subtitle, "to help you remember." I'll have one section called "My Story," one with poetry I've written, one with special menus and recipes. Pictures will be sprinkled throughout where appropriate.

I still don't know that my life and memories will prove to be very interesting to anyone else, but I wish I could ask my mother for her memories and stories. Maybe this way I can leave some answers for my family when I'm no longer available when they ask.
