Cafe Bleu
Come, “Sit & Sip”
the sign beckoned.
Enjoy the blueness
of a washed-out sky
or the bottom of a swimming pool.
We’ve got more atmosphere
than a cup of lukewarm coffee
sterilized in the white glare of the lamp
that hangs over your head like a threat.

But it was the chair that drew me,
standing despite its spindly legs,
defying the passive scheme in fiery velvet,
its contours offering a warm embrace.
And it was the pillow that threw me
disallowing the perfect positioning of my posterior.
It had no business in that chair
but to sit between that seat and my seat.
A throw pillow, indeed!

I got my coffee to go.
