20220702 What Next?
July 2, 2022, 2:30pm

I recently wrote that I completed a novel. I guess this leads to the question: what happens next?

Normally I complete a long story, then a few short stories come out as extra ideas or the last bit of mental diarrhoea flows forth. Then my mind starts to think about whatever long story comes next, and in about 4-6 months a new long story will come out, with a bunch of shorter ones in the meantime. Well, nothing like that happened this time.

No… I have 3 ideas for new long works.

This is a new thing for me, and it is weird. So I have started a screenplay, a novella (I’m relatively sure it will only be a novella) and a novel.

I am flitting back and forth between them at the moment, waiting for one to really take a firm hold, but so far it is just going from one to the other.

Oh, I do have a fourth idea for a novel, and I have the thing vaguely planned out – 3 main characters, the Big Bad, what’s going to happen, a sort of ending – but I am saving that for NaNoWriMo in November. That should give my head enough time to go over it so churning out 80k words in a quick fire 3 ½ weeks will not be an issue.

My brain is working oddly. Maybe this is part of getting old(er)?
