Return to Sender
I think the postman’s lost the plot
To wear out his shoes on these sidewalks
Trudging along in the sun and the snow
It doesn’t seem worth it, you know
Once perhaps, when his bag was packed
With news from home, informative tracts
With letters full of hearts and flowers
Or “Dear Johns” written when love had soured
Then, perhaps he’d have good reason
To be outdoors in every season
But this daily pile of bills and sales
Hardly justifies collecting the mail
Warranties on cars I don’t own
Offers for easy-term loans
Collection notices written in a stern tone
I wish the mailman would just stay home

Prompt:
Opening the mailbox.

What did you find inside?
A package? Letter? Sweets?
Maybe an animal?
Perhaps the mailbox remains empty.

Talk about the feelings you have regarding the find.
