Pain of Remembrance

As the wind sweeps through the valleys
and high up in the trees
he sits among the debris and ashes
but will remember me

As the sun kisses the mountains
and the beach hugs the sea
he walks along the broken path
but will remember me

As the laughter of children echoes
so do the screams of war's agony
he tries to block out it all
but will remember me

As the vision of love appears
once young and free
he won't give into unshed tears
but will remember me

He will see the pain and heartache
that made me cease to be
by deceiving my heart and soul
but he will remember me

So before he takes his life
to end his misery
he will wish he never caused me pain
because it made him remember me
