This story is a about a cat who wants a home... |
Grease laid his head on the sun toasted leather seat inside an old Volkswagen Beatle. It was another hot day in the Winston Junkyard. Not many people came to the junkyard, but ever so often Grease’s friend Fancy would stop by to see how he was doing. Most of the time Grease answered that he was miserable. Grease was sick of his junkyard life, and what he wanted most was a family to love and take care of him. Fancy hadn’t visited him in a few days so he wasn’t surprised to see her climbing down the trash cans in the corner of the lot. It wasn’t long before Fancy was standing on the hood of the Volkswagen looking down at him. “Time to get up, sleepy head. The day is wasting away.” She sang out cheerfully. Grease had no intentions of getting up, not even if Fancy twirled and did a polka dance in front of him. He was miserable and he was going to lounge all day. But obviously Fancy had other plans. Maybe even one that would get him up. “Come on, Grease. I’m sick of watching you sleep your last five lives away, let’s go get you a home!” That got him up so fast he almost coughed up a fur ball. “What do you mean a home?” He asked skeptically. “Exactly what I said; now get up before nightfall comes and everyone goes to bed.” Grease happily got to his feet, and followed Fancy to Main Street where there were hundreds of people walking in and out of shops. “How are we going to find me a home anyway?” Grease asked curiously. “Well, when you see a human you want to be your master just go up to them and make them take you home.” She explained. “How am I going to make them take me home?” “You know, meow up at them, bat your cute little eyes, purr, and curl your body around their legs.” Hmmm. Not a bad idea. Grease walked up to a nice looking human in a gray suit. First Grease curled his body around the man’s leg, and then he looked up at him and meowed. The man looked down at Grease then the pants legs of his suit. The man didn’t have a very pleasant look on his face. Then all of a sudden the man yelled. “You got grease on my new suit! Get!” And he shooed Grease away. The next human he encountered had a small child, but when the child tried to pet him the mother human screamed “Eew, skunk! Get away!” And he was shooed away, again. Grease had had enough. “This is useless. I’ll never find a home. Junkyard cats dreams never come true.” He turned around to cross the road so he could get back to the junkyard. But right as he was crossing the road he heard a loud screeching noise and looked up to see a car bearing down on him. Luckily, the car stopped in time. Grease just stood there looking up at the car that had almost run him over. A human scrambled out of the car ran towards him and picked him up. “Are you ok, little guy?” The nice lady human asked as she stroked his head making him purr. “You’re a nice little kitty-cat, aren’t you? You’d be so pretty if you had all this black grease off you. Clean and white.” She scratched Grease behind his left ear causing him to purr even louder. “Don’t worry, we’ll get you cleaned up.” Before Grease was taken away to his new home he looked back at Fancy and said. “I guess a junkyard cats dream can come true.” And he smiled from ear to ear. |
