A poem about love, understanding, and tragedy
A young boy and girl met in the great outdoors
In a small place where all animals attend.
And they know now what they knew then -
That their love for each other would never end.

They met every fall, winter and spring
Where they fed all the animals and birds.
They sat there and watched the birds as they talked
But their love was stronger than words.

One summer a man entered the woods,
He shot everyting without a single care.
He carelessly pointed his gun at the girl,
And his bullet whizzed through the air.

The water jar she was carrying fell,
It hit a rock and instantly smashed.
The young boy responded as he quickly looked up,
And down to the ground his love crashed.

He quickly got up and ran to her,
And moved her away from the glass.
Then picking her up he held her close,
Then set her back down in the grass.

Her face had lost all color,
As if a serpent had stolen her soul.
Her cheeks were no longer rosy,
And her eyes were as dark as coal.

She lifted her head and gave him a kiss,
Then she collapsed all limp and weak.
The animals came and gathered around,
As a single tear ran down her cheek.

The animals were no longer happy,
No one could change that day.
They sadly glanced on as he said good-bye,
And looked at where his love lay.

He glanced to the sky in wonder,
As if saying a silent prayer.
He bent over her unmoving body,
And ran his fingers through her hair.

The sky grew dark and unpleasent,
And he knew his love had died.
The wind picked up and it started to rain,
And he and the animals cried.
