Teen suicide is a rising problem. We never know how someone may be hurting on the inside.
*November 2004*

Forced to change
Her image, her self.
Who she really is,
for somebody else.
She doesn't wanna.
She's holding back the tears,
Streaming from her face
Her adolescent fears.
Her fears, the stares
The whispers she hears
She tries to block them out,
She covers her ears.
But nothing will stop it:
The screaming inside.
Wanting to come out,
But trying so hard to hide.
They don't really know her.
They don't really care.
They just laugh at her clothes
Her face, her hair.
She wants to be loved.
To be kissed and be hugged,
She's tired of this mess,
She thinks she's had enough.
But when a boy says he loves her,
She's always givin' in.
Thinkin' this time it will be different,
But she's left alone again.
She's tired of their glances,
Of being called a whore.
She smiles to herself,
"They won't say it anymore."
The cuts on her arm,
The blood on her sleeves.
Trying to shut out the pain,
Watching herself bleed.
"Wouldn't it be better," she thinks
At the blood she stares,
"To not live in this hell anymore?
If I'm gone, who will care?"
She knows where it is.
In her distant father's closet.
The reason her mother's dead.
Used when he lost it.
The shot, the noise
The memory is buried.
Deep inside her troubled mind
Where her burdens are carried.
She'll die like her mom did,
A gunshot to the head.
She'll pull the trigger fast,
And quick she'll be dead.
She takes a deep breath
Says a quick prayer.
In one split second,
There's blood all in her hair.
She falls to the floor,
Out of her hand falls the gun.
Instead if facing her problems,
All she did was run.
She can never come back.
Now she's dead.
Wouldn't it have been different,
If a kind word had been said?
The hopelessness she felt,
It's so sad.
When she could've felt God's love,
It makes me mad.
Why didn't we tell her?
While there was still time.
The clock ticked slowly.....
Till the end of her life.
We could've stopped it,
A life saved.
A smile, a hello,
A little wave.
She didn't die
That cold lonely night.
Everyday a little more of her
Died inside.
Till there was nothing left,
Her desperate cries.
Searching for her reflection,
In another's eyes.
She slowly faded away,
Like the setting sun.
All the while we ignored her,
In our selfish fun.
What hypocrites we are!
What lies! What jokes!
What would Jesus have done?
On our tears we choke.
We can't bring her back.
But she's not the only,
Longing to be hugged, loved,
A heart so lonely.
There's no reason,
They feel like they do.
When there's a God who loves them.
So powerful and true.
So let Him live through you.
Be a light in the world for Him.
Tell everyone of His love,
How He takes away their sin.
Remember, we never know,
How someone feels inside.
What they cover up,
What they try to hide.
So make sure you tell them,
Show them God's way.
Remember you'll meet someone like her
Everyday.
