Sometimes our minds are the worst prison.

Sometimes I Remember
By: P. Christopher

Sometimes when I lie alone in my cell
After the medicine has made me sedate.
When I relax in this jacket that fits me so well
It is then I begin to meditate.

Sometimes when I'm feeling sublime
And the world's restraints begin to lift
My mind wanders back to a simpler time
And my thoughts begin to drift.

Sometimes I remember how it used to be.
How it was in days gone past.
I remember a girl, lovely was she.
Before that last die was cast.

I remember the love and romance
Hand in hand through the years we strolled.
Then I get to the last dance.
About this time my memories grow cold.

Because sometimes I remember how I felt.
The rage, the hate, the malice.
I remember the punishment I dealt.
I remember killing Alice.

I remember how she gasped and cried.
I remember how I left her.
I remember how it was she died.
I remember how I killed her.

My hands around her throat.
Oh! How hard I squeezed!
Even now I hear her choke.
I crushed her larynx with ease.

She was on her way, I was sure.
Watching the light leave her eye.
Then she was dead-I had killed her.
But for the life of me I can't remember why.
