Thanksgiving Ugg

Thanksgiving! There are parts I love. The story behind the celebration! Such an important moment in history. How many people even know it?

Yes, they probably still teach it in school, I should ask before I rant. But my children are grown-ups, their children just old enough to be finding out there’s another holiday they get off from school! And there’s dessert!! Plus, none of them live with me.

I failed at telling the actual story to my oldest grandchild. Yeah, I know the Pilgrims, the Mayflower part. The way I remember it, the Pilgrims were sharing a celebration with the locals. Indians who already lived here. Their relatives had lived here for longer than anyone they knew could even remember. They were born here…

Also, my favorite foods Thanksgiving, mashed potatoes, and pie. Neither of which has anything to do with Pilgrims, nor Native Americans. But I digress, again, it was a celebration of people who at that moment wanted very much to be friends. That’s my take on it, I tend toward optimistic whenever possible.

However, now, it’s all about the food… well, and football. I will be the first to admit I hate to cook, that could be a part of it. I married a man who loved to cook! So, I let him! I always cleaned up! It was worth it! But he’s gone now, and cleaning up from Thanksgiving is seriously much bigger than cleaning up from family dinner. Nobody else seems to notice…

So, today I’m planning to say I threw up, this morning, right here! I can’t possibly go to dinner; I could be contagious! Please! Save me some food!!! (Excuse my little white lie, I’m old, we’re good at them.)

And, I’m planning to spend my whole day watching football!
