Laina stared at the computer screen. The small amount in her bank account stared back at her. She felt sick to the stomach. The rent was due, so were the electricity and gas bills and she’d lost her job last week.
Something will turn up; Gran’s favourite saying played in her mind. It was true it had before, usually in the most unexpected ways.
That afternoon a friend called with the offer of some temporary work; just enough to cover the month’s bills. Maybe it was luck, maybe fate. But she knew it was true, something did usually turn up.
