A man finds himself transported elsewhere, with no idea how. Daily Flash Fiction winner.
This can't be real. I was walking through the woods, and then there was a flash, and suddenly I'm standing on a city street corner. And it's raining. A minute ago I was watching the rays of sun poking through treetops to light up spots of forest floor, and just like that it's raining. Hard.

I know this isn't a dream, because it's early afternoon, not the middle of the night. I'm wide awake, and I'm pretty sure I'm sane. So what's the answer here? On the other hand, I am talking to myself.

I remember it clearly. I woke up at the usual time, had the usual breakfast, spent the morning doing normal tasks, and ate lunch. So what happened? I tripped on a rock a few minutes ago, but I didn't fall or hit my head against anything.

Get out of the rain, you idiot. Don't just stand here out in the open wondering what happened. You can wonder just as well under that awning.

What the hell? There's a rock, just sitting there on the sidewalk. And it looks strangely like the one I tripped over in the woods. Did I open some kind of time/space portal? The clock on that bank is only a couple of minutes off from my watch, but bank clocks are notorious for being wrong. However, the space I'm in now is definitely not the space I was in a few minutes ago.

Maybe if I just intentionally trip over this rock, I'll return to where I was before. Or maybe I'll pitch forward into a store window, and end up with several stitches in my forehead. And a bill for the window.

I recognize this street. I can walk home from here. And I don't think I'll tell anyone about this.
