George and Suki are on their first date.
Real Men Don’t Gossip
WC 203

I was sitting across from my new friend, Suki. We met online and this was our first date.

Suki was hot!

“So, George, what do you think about gossip?”

Denny's was crazy-busy, so I leaned across the booth so she could hear me.

“I have always hated it.”

“Yet you gossip,” she added. “You just spent ten minutes badmouthing your ex.”

“But I hate myself when I do it.”

I didn’t want to scare her away, so I stopped talking.

“Grow a pair,” she said.

It was crude but on the mark; I was really blowing it.

“What's your very first instinct when someone says, ‘You didn't hear this from me?’”

“To run!” I lied. My first instinct was to listen and pass it on.

“But do you George? You know real men don't usually gossip. It's off-putting.”

“And Suki, what do you do?”

"I don’t engage. I leave the situation.”

She wrote something on her napkin and slid it toward me.

“Read that to me,” she said as she placed a five-dollar bill on the table.

I read what she wrote.

“You didn't hear this from me,” I said.

Just that fast, Suki got up and disappeared through Denny’s double doors, never to be heard from again.
