Above the knife edged rocks that cut the wintry sea,
Faith's light shines out across the breaking waves,
Warning religions' mariners
That the reefs of dogma sever but do not save.
Salvation breaks above the coast itself,
Dawn's light colors the clouds of morning red,
Illuminating for cautious mariners
The narrow passage through which bolder crews have sped.
Alone upon the cliffs the lighthouse stands,
Silhouetted against the rising sun,
Challenging frightened mariners
To attempt the narrow passage or to run.
