Hi everyone and welcome to the 13th annual PreQuills, celebrating the best of Writing.com from 2019!
Today we are announcing the finalists in 16 categories and we'll be announcing the winners of 17 genre categories!
The final Quill ceremony will be next Saturday, 6 June at 4pm WDC time and we’ll then announce the remaining Quill Award winners. In total we'll have more than 60 Quill winners, which is a new record!
If you miss any of the results, they'll be posted in the newsfeed and emailed to all nominees who are part of "Invalid Item" .
Just a reminder that you can post messages here and also listen to/watch the live chat.
Right, has everyone been to the bathroom?
I'll announce the 16 lots of finalists first, and then we’ll do our 17 genre winners and HMs. After that, Kitti the Red-Nosed Feline and I also have a big announcement to make.
Quill rules state that any category that receives more than 20 nominations will have 5-10 of the nominated pieces selected as finalists. These finalists are based on the results of the judging, or of the voting YOU did if it's a genre category.
Our first lot of finalists are for Best Arts, Music and Crafts.
Our next Quill is for Best Health/Medical, a very topical category this year! It seems likely there will be more nominations in this category for 2020!
And congratulations to ALL our nominees, finalists, honorable mentions and winners today. You should all be very proud of yourselves. We're proud of you!
I'm delighted that several people won their very first Quills today, that's super exciting. An extra big congratulations to them.
And now, a special announcement. As you can imagine, hosting the Quills requires a lot of work in the background, well before we ever get to the ceremonies. It's incredibly rewarding, but can also prove to be a tough demand on a person.
Obviously this is a community effort, and I want to thank all the volunteers (especially Kitti the Red-Nosed Feline and Jayngle Bells), the judges, the fundraisers and all of you who nominate.
So, without further ado, Kitti the Red-Nosed Feline has agreed to be my co-host, and from now on, we will alternate hosting Quills each year. Kitt will do the even years and I will do the odd years. Yes, I'm sure she planned it so that I'd be the odd one.
So while Kitti the Red-Nosed Feline will be your Quillmaster next year, I assure you that I am not going to be far away, and I will continue to help her behind the scenes, just as she did for me. And the following year you'll be back to me, and so on and so forth.
Well, that about wraps up the PreQuill. The official Quills ceremony will be next Saturday, 6 June at 4pm WDC time. We will be presenting all the remaining Quill Awards. Make sure you're there!
