Thoughts of an empath who feels alone in a world that seems to lack compassion
You took a creature's life today,
Took away its right to live,
Simply because it was in your way,
No compassion would you give.

I'm sure this wasn't what you planned,
But you laughed when you saw my glare.
I get that you don't understand.
I get that you don't care.

I just have to ask one thing.
Do you have to work at this?
Or does your personality bring
The ability to dismiss

Suffering and pain?
You shrug your shoulders and sigh.
Sadness in the news again,
And you don't bat an eye.

Children hungry on the street
And you go about your day.
People and animals, getting beat,
And you turn your head away.

Suffering lives, great or small,
They're all the same to you.
When asked if you care at all,
You say "What can I do?"

I ask you now, please teach me
How you live your life?
Teach me how to no longer see
A world that's full of strife?

Teach me how to ignore
Pain and misery all around?
Teach me how not to abhor
The selfishness that abounds.

Teach me how to feel
Absolutely nothing at all,
So that I can heal,
And become an emotionless wall.

I want to be just like you,
So please, I ask you, tell.
And why, you ask? I wish you knew;
To care this much is hell.
