Simply Meant To Be

Rod and I met 1st December 1962 and therefore have enjoyed 54 St Valentine's Days. We married in 1967 after an enforced, by my father, courtship of five years. He had said to my then 18 year old boyfriend, 'What are your intentions towards my daughter'? This was on our 3rd date. Rod had replied, 'I didn't know that I had any'! He and my dear father got on very well after that. Later in our going out after Rod had formally asked my father 'for my hand in marriage after 4 years, he gave his permission for us to get engaged with the proviso that we didn't marry for at least another year. His reasoning was, 'if you can stand my daughter for five years, you should last a lifetime". Whether his reasoning was the right way to act, he has proved to be correct. My Dad had of course been born in 1899 and had very strict rules for behaviour but I still miss him terribly. He died in 1969.
