Color leads to strife - or does it?
'Try something new' for this month, 'poetry',
Usually a short fun elegy!
Uninspired am I, romance to write,
On this cold dark subzero wintry night.
My country's chaotic, governed by tweets;
Whoever thought Trump would corner this seat?

Tired of news, switching to painted knitting;
Strands twist like puzzle pieces not fitting.
Colors fight, struggle against each other;
This knitted piece is a clashing pother.

No pattern is visually discerned,
Aesthetically lacking, yellows burn.
All jumbled oranges not matching a wit;
Whatever possessed me this mess to knit?

Thought breaks suddenly, a dawn of bright light,
When I recognize my muddled colors
Reflect deeply our country's darkest night.
Indigo's chaos angers yellow bright;
Competing orange shades confuses sight.

Our nation's resisting parade of change,
Proposes colors of differing shades.
Disparate achromatic color reigns,
Rejects families from skin's tinted range.

This 'clash of colors' struggle beginning
Stirs our melting pot's cliff hanger ending.

Assignment: Creative Instinct
Write about some color that impresses you, either favorably or unfavorably. Since this is a creativity workshop, give your imagination free rein to interpret “color” either literally (red, blue, hot pink) or figuratively (the color of pain, joy, anger). Whatever strikes your spark.
