Flash Fiction - Outside interference in a young marriage
The storm passed before Jason’s window to the world. He marveled at the violence it brought. Jason turned his back to the world and focused on the empty house before him. Katherine had left as the storm was forming on the horizon. It had been a silly fight. Started by no more than a self-serving rumor spread by a jealous rival.

“You know that she means nothing to me, she never has and never will.”

“There have been so many rumors; I just don’t know what is true.”

“You are the only woman that I need. Don’t listen to Leanne’s poison.”

“Poison is it? Or are you the poison? I need to think!

With that, Katherine left Jason to the silence of their home.

It had been too long. She should be back by now. Jason donned his foul weather gear and headed out in search of his beloved Katherine. There was only one place that Katherine would go, direct to Leanne.

The way grew treacherous as he neared Leanne’s home. He fell on several occasions.
He reached out to pound on the door. He heard Katherine! He knocked with violence that demanded entry. The door was answered by his beloved.

“What happened? “

“I came to confront Leanne, and we have had a very good discussion. We have, in fact, buried the hatchet. What are you on about?”

“You’ve been gone so long. I waited and worried. I was afraid that something bad had happened.”

“Silly man, it hasn’t been more than 15 minutes since I left. Since you are here for me, I may as well accompany you home. See you tomorrow Leanne!”

Leanne did not respond. She sat there with blood flowing gently down the handle of the hatchet found buried in her skull.
