Draft for an upcoming story.
When people think of the city, they often relate it to claustrophobia, dirtiness, hate, crimes, etc. But that’s not the full story. At least, not to one 14 year old boy I know of. To this boy, the city is his play ground. It’s his joy. It’s his life. It’s his home. And as he was looking out at all the various buildings, taking in the wondrous display of multicolored vehicles, the dazzling, blinking lights, and the masses of people, all with their names and stories, bustling about, he couldn’t help but smile. This was beauty to him.
The wind whisked his hair, whipping it around his lean face. He twirled his fingers some and sparked a small orb of his own spectacular light in his hand, brightening and enlarging with a tight flex of his hand. He snapped his fingers, causing the brilliant blue to flare up, then shutter out of existence.
“He-heyy!” he shouted at the top of his lungs, soaring out over the building tops, his black denim jacket flapping in the wind-streams flowing behind him. With his arms outstretched behind him, hands open wide, and his hair whipping around erratically, he flew through the brisk night air, basking in the city’s light show.
Flying low over a nearby park, he saw an older lady standing underneath an open tree. Up on a branch sat a small white cat. The lady was facing away from the tree, looking out for any helping hand while the stuck cat meow-ed away behind her. Scott slowed to a stop, balancing himself and floating just above the crisp tree line. He focused on the cat and raised his hand slightly, gently flicking his wrist here and there to lift the cat out of the tree, and then onto the ground just behind the frail lady. She looked down as the cat purred and rubbed itself against her leg.
“Oh, missy. How did you get down all by yourself? Oh, dear. Let’s get you home. It’s so late.”
Scott smirked and mock-saluted the woman as she walked off, holding her cat close to her chest. “Just your friendly neighborhood Spiderman, ma’am.” He murmured.

As you no doubt may have noticed, Scott isn't just a 14 year old boy. He's so much more than that. His very existence is a star shining brightly in the open space that is humanity. On his way back to his home, Scott made his usual trip around a culdesac deep in the confines of the city, whirling past giant houses that made his own look even more like a wreck than it already did. He kept high above the rooftops, out of sight from anyone that would happen to look out their windows late at night. He learned his lesson awhile back, after he saw headlines in newspapers that reported of people sighting UFOs. He didn't know what would happen if people had found out about his quirks, but he didn't want to find out.
He saw his destination, and landed slowly into a tree branch, looking into a window just beyond the branches and leaves, half covered by a light curtain. Through it, he saw a beautiful figure. A girl with gorgeous dirty blonde hair, fluffing out her blanket, and setting up plushed animals around her bed. He came here often, just to watch. He never did anything weird or perverted, mind you. He had the utmost respect for the girl, and only ever watched her with innocent intentions. He couldn't explain why he went there every night, only to watch her weirdly through a gap in a tree. He had seen her in the house's garden one day, planting flowers, and running around playfully. She had looked so..genuine, and happy.
He fell for her almost immediately.
After a few moments, the girl had turned off her lights and put herself into bed, so Scott, as with every night, seized his chance. He held out his hand and sent a pulse into his palm, which rippled through his skin and sent sparks of red light bouncing off his fingers. He twirled the orb of energy that had appeared and subtly formed it into a crystalline heart, sparkling with a glow that seemed completely unnatural to this world. He blew on the heart and watched it as it floated gently over to the girl's window.

From inside, the girl with blonde curls noticed, once again, a red, sparkling heart at her window- the heart was covered with facets, as though it was made of a gem, and sparks flew out of it. She quickly went to her windowsill and watched the heart with genuine curiosity. She could never be sure whether or not she was dreaming the heart, but it appeared nearly every night, just as she went to bed. She had made the mistake of reaching out the window to try and touch it one night, but it had flared up and disappeared as soon as she did, causing her to draw her hand back in, fearing it would hurt her- which didn't help her confusion as to its existence.
She watched it as it, eventually, faded in the night sky. She looked beyond where the heart had floated, wondering if someone had put it there somehow. She gazed into the tree, thinking she had seen something shift the branches- but there was nothing there but leaves.

Scott had left just before the heart sparked out of existence. He thought back to the girl's face. She always had a look of admiration for the heart, the glow reflecting in her eyes. He couldn't help but think she had admiration for him, and not just the heart he crafted. But each time the heart began to fade, he had already left the branches, not wanting to be seen by her. He couldn't be sure she would accept him. He couldn't be sure she wouldn't be terrified of what he could do.
