Learn about music through a poem
Gather 'round kids
All young and all old
For the mysteries of music
I now shall unfold

Oh music oh music
You bring joy to the world
For without you we'd be
In a very different world

Music is the use
Of sound and of silence
With rhythm and pitch
And poetic license

Oh music oh music
You bring joy to the world
For without you we'd be
In a very different world

Greek for mousike
Means "art of the muses"
From nine lovely goddesses
Of their inspiration infuses

Oh music oh music
You bring joy to the world
For without you we'd be
In a very different world

First there is pitch
The science of it
Is the frequency it plays
When you take the noise from it

Oh music oh music
You bring joy to the world
For without you we'd be
In a very different world

Then there is timbre
The quality of the note
Makes a flute sound like a flute
And not like your throat

Oh music oh music
You bring joy to the world
For without you we'd be
In a very different world

And then there dynamics
How soft or how LOUD
Like how you play when alone
Or you play in a crowd

Oh music oh music
You bring joy to the world
For without you we'd be
In a very different world

And next we have rhythm
Some might call it a beat
That regular sound
That starts you tapping your feet

Oh music oh music
You bring joy to the world
For without you we'd be
In a very different world

Now you know something of music
But there's so very much more
But I thought I should stop now
Before you think I'm a bore.
