A trip to the library turns disastrous. |
This was my last chance. My mom said the library wasn't for 10-year-olds, but I promised I'd be really quiet, so after much begging and whining I was finally allowed to go. After the ruckus I had caused at the grocery store and the bank, I knew my mom's patience was on the brink of explosion. With that in mind, I tiptoed ever so quietly up to the display shelf and stared up at the first book--The Hidden Clown. On it was a creepy clown giving me this weird, smiley stare. I decided to take a look at The Hidden Clown when the unthinkable happened. As I began to pick it up, The Hidden Clown slipped from my grip and clattered back onto the display desk. It smashed into the book next to it, which in turn smashed into the book next to that. All the books fell over to the last one. When the last one fell, I saw it fly over the edge of the desk and smack into a solid object. I heard a loud bark, and the next thing I knew a dog jumped up in panic and began running around madly! Suddenly, the dog rounded a corner, and then smacked into one of the huge shelves of books. With a loud groan the entire shelf of thousands of books slowly began to fall forward. It toppled with a huge crash, and then knocked over the next shelf of books. Once again, the horrible domino effect unfolded before my eyes, and one by one all the shelves in the library toppled to the floor. People screamed and fled out of the building. As you can imagine my mom wasn't too happy. She had plenty of words for me, but I only had one. Oops. |
