For Norbert, my father-in-law

A light fades; the thoughts in my mind lose focus.

I grasp for my memories.

I see the one I have loved for so many years.

I reach for her.

I can't break through.

Did I say enough how much I love her?

Now I can't. Does she know?

My hands no longer do what I tell them to.

I sit all day not able to walk. Not able to talk.

No longer able to share my life.

With family all around, I am alone.

Each day I lose more and more of myself.

Unable to reach out, unable to think.

She does everything for me. I don't want her to have this burden.

Her - I know her - she takes care of me.

I reach for a spoon - but I don't reach.

I try, I try - She feeds me.

Her face - I know her face.

Her love - I know her love.

I am almost gone - I must fight - I must hold on - I'm afraid - I'm lost.

Her face - I know her face.

Her love - I know her love...
