NOTE: You will have opportunities to revise the list throughout October, so this revision is not expected to be fully accurate or complete.

Order of appearance? Where? [what João collects] <senses including food> Note: psychological descriptions more important than physical (except tall, short, slender, fat... nothing that describes their heritage or ethnicity in a specific way? unless they are NOT a vampire; vampires must remain undefined).

Part 1 (some characters will reappear in Part 3).

Nazaré and Sitio place serves to introduce 'o fado'. <sea, percebes, grit of sand-and-breeze, salt-smell>

A university party town, Coimbra reinforces 'o fado': "A vida tem mais encanto na hora de despedida." [what is given to J during the cortejo?]. Meets a young Turk, Adalet (justice)? Berkant (solid oath)? <music, revelers, colorful parade of floats, more stairs, goat-stew, piss>

Filipa: Lagos old vamp once was queen (J doesn't know; reader may suspect in Part 1). Had her fangs removed when "young". Outgoing vivacious, runs a B&B (Blood and ...) [coin]

Nuno: whore in Porto who leads J into the underworld of casks of wine. [a piece of glass a vial] <wine, azulejos (Filipa... see below)>

Ivan: non-vamp met in Santiago de Compostela while pilgrims show up. Explains pilgrimage to J. [an old seashell] A student. Inquisitive and looking for a party (as is J). <incense, mass liturgy, flowers>

Pilar: non-vamp or is she? Mysterious or hesitant? She introduces J to A Coruña. [an odd stone] Runs a café . Observant and helpful. <orange taste, worn stairs... Roman, scintillating crystal>

Nelson: runs a hotel in Évora; not a vamp but knows one. Cerebral with a memory like a trap. Helpful. Sends J to see his friend, Anacleto. <pork-and-clams, o fado, Roman Temple, sunset over the aqueduct>

Anacleto: Évora vampire waiting for next vamp to come and kill him. He's patient, quiet, worn out, philosophical. Takes J to a megalithic site. <cork, olives, weight of stone>

Part 2:

Amsterdam to entice and give J a chance to spiral down. Meets Marloes (Dutch... not a vamp...)

Christiania hash market, more temptation [an old hippie's scarf: the design is important or maybe the color as J loves red]

Ålesund to get away from vamps! and insanity... meets Farzad (another reason to visit Iran)

Shiraz old Iranian city. What did the old Persians know... learning about duality. J visits Hamed or Farzad. Impeeled to visit Persepolis.

Persepolis ancient place [a two sided stone or object]

Part 3:
