October 1st: premise, idea, theme.

Primise/Idea:

João comes from Brasilian/Portuguese roots. He's American but wants to understand where he comes from. By chance he meets some vampires who tell him that he should go to Portugal as his roots start there.

1. This is told as a travel log from João's point of view.
2. a. João is therefore the main character. b. the send-off: Thoom, Knyflok, Bawang. c. Various vampires and friends come across in his journey: Filipa in Lagos, Nelson in Evora, ? in Coimbra, ? in Tomar, ? in Porto.
3. Goal: a. to encounter vampires... not so easily done by-the-way... there are issues of trust, a history of bad blood. b. to find one's roots (and how that can be redefined).
4. Obstacles: a. language and culture. b. history and landscape. c. distractions (Portugal is far too fascinating a place!)
5. Antagonists? Mostly interior. Secrets... always secrets.

Theme: we humans... however defined... approach life's struggles in different ways... yet we are always human. One must understand context first to criticize.
