Activity for Comma Sense
Hmm. I realize Ms. Winnie wants us to write something, but I'm drawing a serious blank on this. By the time I finish Lesson 3, the class will already be on Lesson 5!

Well, that's the story of my life, isn't it?

I can normally write about snakes or ghosts or haunted houses, so why can't I today?

OK, let's start here.

Driving down the open road, Andy didn't really know where he was. He thought he'd seen this country before, was in fact sure of it. A small Mom And Pop restaurant stirred his muddy memories, and he pulled off of the road. As he stepped out of his car, he noticed two old bikers pull up beside him.

"Dang, Andy," said the first biker, "we haven't seen you around here in a long time. Where have you been?"

Andy, temporarily caught off guard, didn't know who these men were, but they sure seemed to know him.

He cautiously moved away from them and started for the restaurant, keeping his eye on them the whole time. How do I always get myself into these situations? he wondered for the hundredth time.

Just as he started into the shop the two bikers grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him back.

Said the second biker, "We asked you a question, Andy."

Andy was intimidated, yes, but fortunately, he remembered he had his iron fist in his pocket. Pulling it out, he was surprised at how quickly the two bikers backed up.

Just then the owner of the shop came out to see what was happening. Andy, realizing how much trouble he could get in if the shopkeeper saw his weapon, quickly put it back in his pocket.

"Nothing, sir," Andy quickly sputtered. The two bikers, who just earlier had accosted him right in front of the restaurant, were already back on their motorcycles and firing them up.

The old shopkeeper gave Andy a funny little look. "Seems like I've seen you around here before," he said. "What's your name?"

Although the man looked trustworthy, Andy still didn't want to give up his identity, if he had an identity. For now the only thing he knew was that his first name might be 'Andy'.

He quickly ran away from the man and raced to his car.

Then, without even looking back, Andy Docker got back on the highway and once again went searching for himself, whoever he was.
