About today's athletes, their injuries and sometimes death just for entertainment. |
Today’s Gladiators You know, I need to be cleaning up my house for the holidays. Have not DONE a thing for me. HOWEVER, I am feeling good about the holidays, and I know my Mother would be proud of the work I have done. LOL Now, to change the story (my children swear that I have ADHD), but don't believe them. I was sitting here reading news articles and stumbled upon this story about a former football player who is homeless and demented. Just listening to his story made me reaffirm why I do NOT like football or boxing on ANY LEVEL! The later consequences are NOT WORTH the few moments of glory on the field in front of millions of spectators cheering you on to injure and/or kill yourself for their entertainment. Just as my children, kid me about being ADHD, I have told them more seriously of course that football and boxing are the modern day gladiator sports that entertained the Romans and Greeks. Yet we claim to be more "civilized." We KNOW that these sports are dangerous. We know that our children are getting injured on the fields. We know that they are dropping dead. We know that they will pay for those injuries later, and all the money in the world will not heal them. And, yet, we PROMOTE, ENCOURAGE, and PAY TOP DOLLAR for them to continue to do just that for OUR ENTERTAINMENT! NO, my son was NOT ALLOWED to play football. NO, my grandsons were not and will not be encouraged to participate in these VIOLENT SPORTS! If this is their only road to fame, glory, and riches, I’d rather them be poor, healthy, working for peanuts, and in their right minds. We know that people are rarely paid for their brains, and most of us will be poor all of our lives, but society pushes that get rich by any means necessary as the only way to go, and many of our young Black males have chosen this route out of poverty. SMH Terry Tartolo is only one of many NFL players injured during their careers and now suffering because they chose to "entertain" us! His story brings tears to my eyes! Unnecessary suffering. Peace and blessings always. |
