A poem about a woman who has been completely beaten down by life. |
Her eyes look through you, not at you. She has a vacant and distant stare. Her shoes are worn, her coat is torn,,, With grey streaks in her tussled hair. She keeps a cart around the corner. Her belongings are safe and sound. When she returns to her space at night... Nobody is ever around!!!! Daily she walks the neighborhood... Blindly she moves through the crowd. She's lost her bus token, her heart has been broken, The silence screams so loud!!!!!!!! People stare and move away from her. Children point and laugh and grin. They just don't know that but for the grace of God, They're only one step away from this sin!!!! One storm away, One paycheck missed, One misdirected gust of wind. It all could happen to any one of us... Without knowing why, where or when!!!! Pointing fingers, judging or making fun... When you're making it on a wing and a prayer. We are all God's Children, doing it the best we can. Only God is holding us There!!! So as she takes her cart and blankets... And makes a space to lay her head at night. Just know that but for the grace of God... We could all be caught up in this fight!!!! We are all one!!!! Copyright 2012~ Angie Y. McCoy (Excerpt from my upcoming book: "In The Shadow of The Sun" |
