Escaping Nazi Germany

July 14th, 1945

The boys read “Attention Axel Schmidt and Till Schmidt you are being enlisted to join Hitler’s Nazi Army. You must report at 0100 hours on April 4 to basic training.”

The boys were speechless. They had lost their father to the war earlier that year. And their mother when they where both very young.

“Pack your bags,” Axel instructed. “WHAT? Are you serious?” Till said. “Pack your bags where going into hiding.”

“We need to find some where safe.” Axel said panicking. “Shut the hell up there is no where safe!” Till said abruptly.

Axel and Till started to sell their possessions for money to buy boat tickets. They decided that they where going to migrate to America. They have to do this trough the black market import systems.

April 2nd

Hitler’s clutches were getting stronger. Things in Hamburg where getting more strict. The boys had to go underground. The Nazi where starting to kill the men that did no enlist on time. The Boys time was getting close.

April 19th

Axel and Till had finally acquired enough money to get a boat ticket. They had to travel the coast. This took weeks, but they made it to the Italy. The boys have to stay in Italy for a few days before the boat is ready to leave the harbor.

May 25th

“No one will find us here,” Axel said. “ I think our planned worked Till tomorrow the boat will be on its way to America.”

May 8th

They arrived in America. Everyone was celebrating, “VE-Day!” The boys escaped Nazi Germany only to arrive in America when the war was over.
