Paper Flowers


My solitude confines me,
and I am frozen
in its grasp.

I hide from the rain,
and the storm outside.
I am safe, but I am not free.

I want to run with the wind,
and listen to the message
it whispers to the trees.

I want to fall from the sky,
slowly, like snow,
and land with just a soft thud.

I want to swim with the sharks,
in the mystic silence,
and witness their ritual survival.

I want to shine with the stars
and whisper my name
to those who look to my light.

I want to crash with the waves,
and flow with the tide,
I want to kiss the sand.

I will dance with the moon.
I will soar to the sun.
I will sing with the birds.
I will roar with the storm.

Because only paper flowers
are afraid
of the rain.
