a poem about love and heartbreak
Daisy chains.

Sat by the lake with you
braiding daisies in a chain
as you played with my hair
and we tried to make out
face and places
in the clouds

Stood in the park with you
and you promised to let me take
your picture at sunset
pinks and oranges
turning your skin to gold

Out for dinner with you
and we share a desert
as an old lady smiles and tells us
she's never seen people
more beautifully in love

Reading poems with you
whilst you fake a keen interest
and I ramble and rattle off sonnets
you laughing because you suddenly know
that I was the girl, the one

Sharing secrets with you
and you mumble the truth
why your always so guarded
and I kiss you and wonder if anyone else
on this sad lonely planet
is content and I am right now

Lay in bed with you as
as we fall even harder
and I'm safe and we're happy
and you whisper at midnight
you'll marry me someday,
you promised.

I'm here with you today
and I'm still broken inside
as my fingers trace over
your name carved in stone
and the engraved date
of the day that you died.
