Valentines for the Lonely Hearts of the world |
Annabelle's Valentine Annabelle was visiting the coast with her parents for an early Spring vacation. It worked well with her online schooling and she was happy to have a break from her studies; although, it was lonely. She had few friends and spent most of her days alone. Those she did have were still attending their classes in public school. Her parents had went off shopping on the boardwalk leaving her alone as usual at the beach house they were renting. Annabelle decided to go for a walk and see what seashells she could find in the sand. Her collection of shells was growing. She wasn't sure just what she was going to do with all the shells she was collecting. As Annabelle walked along the beach a flash of red caught her eye. She noticed something floating in the water over near the big rocks. She was cautious but curious as she reached down into the cool water and picked up a clear glass bottle with a gold lid. Annabelle moved back up on the beach away from the waters edge and set down on the sand. Sitting with her legs straight out in front of her she began turning the bottle round and round. Something red was inside. She twisted the lid as hard as she could. It sure was on tight. Probably so the water would not seep inside and destroy whatever this red contents was. Finally the lid came off and the flash of red slowly slipped free from the neck of the bottle. She wiggled out a piece of red paper. Unfolding the paper it revealed a red heart with a message written on it; a Valentine. How cool is that!! Interesting that a valentine would be floating inside a bottle out in the middle of the ocean. Wonder what it says, she thought. Valentine's Day can be the loneliest day of the year No flowers, no candy, no card shared So I have made this heart especially for you, My Friend that you may feel a moment in time cared All I ask is that you send a similar greeting of hope offering a moment of love to a Lonely Valentine Soul Annabelle read the lines over and over several times. A feeling of caring and sharing spreading through her young soul. Suddenly she knew what to do with the shells she had been collecting. A state of loneliness is just that; an expression of isolation basically. But here is the thing, no one is ever totally alone. A higher being is ever present and watching over us. This was the message she would share with her collection of shells. As she looked out over the ocean she smiled and thought to herself 'Thank you, My Special Valentine Friend, for sharing yourself with me. Happy Valentine's Day, Everyone”. Word Count: 474 |
