Easter dinner at Al's.

My Easter began at three a.m. I had a very early route But Sunday routes are the best. No traffic and the money is great. After putting in nine hours I drove home and hit the shower. I was fresh and new thirty minutes later and had not eaten much so as to be ravenous when dinner time came. My wifes sister Denise is married to Al Yasi. A self styled kitchen maven who puts on tremendous feasts for his family on the holidays. Eastern is special. A big ham and roasted lamb with cheesy potatos and stuffed artichokes. First a glass of Bookers bourbon and a Miller Lite. My face had taken on a nice rosey hue.

    My daughters boyfriend Rafael joined us this year. I took it upon myself to offer him a drink. The lady of the house, Denise intervened and denied him his drink. There was no argument. It is her house. That is her feeling. He is legally underage and thems the rules. In my house he is welcome to a drink anytime. He is eighteen and is going to Paris island in August to start Marine basic training. If anyone deserves a drink it is he. I would never allow him to over drink in my home. that is easy to monitor since I don't over indulge. He would never think of taking a drink without it being offered so I don't see the problem. Like I said there was no argument. We just disagree.

    I took my time and sated my appetite. It really was sumptious. What a feast. I told my wife we must return the favor and take Al and Denise out for dinner. Someplace great. Not a run of the mill eatery but a nice, unique place that will set us back a few bucks. Al is well off. Certainly he can afford to put on soiree's of grand stature and not worry about the cost but just the same he is spending his money on us. We do owe it to them.

  It is my great fortune to be in this family. Generosity is a hallmark trait to my in laws. There is no competion, just earnest offerings of plenty. Everyone participates. I have seen the parties put on by less benevolent hosts and am tip toeing towards the door long before the end of the occasion. Her families get togethers last all night long and sometimes have whole second meals prepared because they are there so long. I don't participate in these marathon events but I recognize the fun they all have. I share those values and always strive to put on a great occasion when my turn comes. When you are blessed as I am with family and plenty the world is certainly a beautiful place. My world is beautiful. Thank you God.
