Story about two friends, who were true soul mates |
Karla and Tiffany were two old friends. They had known each other from years their mothers went diaper shopping for them, to years when they went to buy diapers for their kids and to this day when they now went shopped adult diapers for themselves. Life was like a mature wine and they were certainly making most of it. They were rich ladies, inheriting healthy bank accounts, pensions, gold, investments in property etc. Karla had been an investment banker and her experience and loyalty with numbers had helped her and Tiffany earn some handsome rewards from the stock market as well. She invested like a shrewd investor and earned like a salient warrior. Tiffany was always the fancier one of the two, married to a land baron was her biggest success in life. Karla was interestingly her husband’s ex-girlfriend, but destiny saw Tiffany as Mrs Rogers and so be it. There were no rough waters ever between the two, not even when Karla found out that her man was no longer hers – in fact she was quite relieved, she always hoped that Roger find a dumb blonde and stay blissfully married with her for years and it happened so. Karla and Rogers realized that they better suited as business allies and not life partners. Soon she was Tiffany bride’s mate and the bride looked like a white lily with pink freckles as Roger slipped the wedding ring on her petite finger. Karla later married this Investment banker in her firm, but being a strong headed woman with big ego, she could not sustain it long. Karla was also the Godmother for Tiffany’s three kids who had all grown up and were doing well in different cities. All this was years back in present day Karla and Tiffany were each other’s world. They cherished their life and were enjoying being old. These days they were spending quite time on beaches of Krabi Island, Thailand. Nature was so natural in this part of the world, waters of the sea changed from blue to green, waves turned tamed to wild, the shores lined with wooden boats with colorful tags around the long tail wooden boats, white sands and blue skies all in perfect harmony. It was around six in the morning, Karla and Tiffany, were strolling on the Raily beach – wild sea of the night was now sober, the sun rose from the east and the big mountain rock looked beautiful in two tones of green. They were talking about life, men in their life, children, stock market, yoga, people around and about anything that just kept them walking around the beach. They stepped into the hotel cafeteria and after enjoying a big warm breakfast, they were sipping in hot coffee sitting by the hotel swimming pool. Young girls played joyfully in the pool; they were so cute, dressed in pretty small baby bikinis looking like dolls. Some made the sand castle a little ahead, near the shore, while some were floating with the help of floating boards. Karla started talking about their childhood, and how they played in the neighborhood park. Tiffany mentioned about their first swimming class and how they liked the chocolate pies that the baker on the other side of the road made. It was a blissful walk across their memory lane. They then went to their room to freshen up and plan the day ahead. While Tiffany went into the shower, Karla saw a message beep on her phone it was a message from Tiffany’s eldest child – Dorri – “Hi Moms. Hope you are having a good time. Take care of yourselves and don’t be naughty”. Karla smiled, a small tear rolled down her cheek. Dorri was hers and Rogers’s love child.. when Rogers got married to Tiffany, Karla carried a 3 weeks old Dorri inside her, three of them were unaware of this. While Tiffany always felt a little skeptical about falling in love with her best friend’s boyfriend, Karla always ensured her that there were no hard feelings. She sure was to get separated from Roger and she should not feel guilty of it. After Karla discovered she was pregnant with Dorri, she confided in Roger. Roger was too shocked to speak as Tiffany had told him about being pregnant with their first child just an hour before. As they spoke of the situation, sitting in his office room, Karla got a call from Tiffany who gushed in the news of being a parent soon. Karla greeted her with equal cheer and promised to see her soon. They could not make a decision, the professional in Karla advocated her to terminate the pregnancy and the human inside her advised her to keep the baby. Roger wanted her to keep the baby too, but didn’t know how to tell her the same. The situation was intense and confusing. Karla knew that it would be difficult for Tiffany to accept her and Rogers’s baby, as she was hopelessly in love with Rogers and super excited being a mommy soon. She also knew that while Tiffany had got over the remorse of getting married to her best friends ex, she would get miserable knowing that she was carrying their love child and it would be a huge challenge to make her believe that the child had nothing to do with the love they had. It just happened on the day Tiffany was out to the boutique finalizing her wedding dress. Karla had to stay in office for a client meeting. Client being Roger owner of Arc Property Builders. They had been in the office for the major part of the day and then went to see the land Rogers Company wanted to acquire, for property evaluations and tax liabilities. As they drove across the countryside, they started talking of Tiffany, marriage, their lost love, her friendship with Tiffany and in between of the land deal and profits that might come with it. The land was small, mulberry bushes surrounded the fence area, and there was a small hut, it had started to snow. They made a quick survey; Karla took some notes and then looking at the weather, advised they better left the place quickly. While returning they got struck in snow – Roger parked the car under a tree and there they just went into a passionate rummy, Roger had some whisky in his car and as they shared a few pegs the weather and old times took over them. It wasn’t love, it wasn’t lust, it wasn’t cool, it wasn’t hot – it was just sex, like a one night stand. After they were done Karla and Roger couldn’t see an eye to eye – they were awkward. They didn’t speak as Roger drove way back through the snow drenched streets. After knowing of her pregnancy and letting Roger know of it, Karla met and congratulated Tiffany on her motherhood. She was really happy for her. After a few weeks in her 5th week of pregnancy Karla let Tiffany and Rogers know that she had to go to Pittsburg for an official work, she was getting a promotion and was to head a new branch of advisors that they were setting up there. She left, promising to come back for Tiffany’s baby shower. That was the first time there came a distance between the two good friends and it was going to be a long one. Karla delivered a healthy baby girl; Tiffany’s was due in another 2 months. Roger did not know of Karla having kept the baby. He called her to inform her of complications in Tiffany’s labor and that the doctors were not hopeful for the baby. She was having a premature labor and situation was critical. Karla flew back to meet them, Tiffany had delivered a dead child and was unconscious. Roger was worried and pained. Karla drove him to her house, and showed her a tiny Dorri – she said their child was not dead. When Tiffany gained conscious she was greeted by blue eyed Dorri, whom she slipped in her arms, forever grateful to the kind lord. This was the biggest and only secret between the two of them. Roger and Tiffany were proud parents; Karla stayed back for the baptism and even named the baby Dorri. She stayed away for another few years; Tiffany delivered twins Marc and Steve after Dorri. Rogers met with a car accident and Tiffany came to terms with the difficulties of life for the first time. Karla joined her to support in the testing times and once again the soul mates were united. After managing Rogers’s business and Tiffany’s house for years, Karla passed the business to the Roger Twins. Dorri studied to be a doctor and was practicing in a city hospital. It was Tiffany who then suggested taking a break from the responsibilities of life and living a queen size old age. The two travelled across the globe, holidaying, partying, relaxing, meditating and spending the last years of their life like their childhood. “Hey what’s up?” Karla’s thoughts were broken by Tiffany’s voice. “Dorri has sent a message; she doesn’t want us to get naughty.” “She sure knows her mother well” winked Tiffany. “It is for both her Moms” smiled Karla. “But she has sent it to you on your mobile” chuckled Tiffany. “Hey yes! But it address Moms and not Mom” teased Karla. “I bet you won’t be as naughty when u got preggers with Dorri” Tiffany stared at Karla. Karla stoned. “I know of it Karl, from the beginning. Dorri’s brown hair were not Rogers they are yours, her dimples come from you and haven’t you noticed how she looks like you”. Tiffany was now hugging Karla. “I always doubted Dorri’s looks, but never let that come in way of my love for her. It was Dorri who found about it and told me, she had an internship in the same city hospital where she was born and was working on the archives. She was curious to know of her birth details and digged her file – she was too shock to know that she was born dead! An old staff nurse then told her about her birth and real mother. I was not surprised, Roger and you had kept the secret so well guarded and I would have not upset you by disclosing that I knew of it”. “When Did you see Dorri?” Karla spoke softly. “I went to see her last month, before coming to Thailand. My mammography sounds of a breast cancer and she said it was time I was prepared. She told me of this then, but don’t worry she’s proud of you and Roger and me, a darling she is like you and bright too”. “Why do you tell me this? Is it because you are to die soon?” a tearful Karla asked, shrugging Tiffany. “No, because I wanted to let you know that nothing could have wrecked our friendship. I felt guilty of keeping your husband and child, I may be a dumb blonde but I can understand the pains you have gone through” – said Tiffany. “Tiff, please don’t say that. Roger was never mine and Dorri has always been mine. Nothing could have wrecked the bridge of our friendship – and I did not hide anything out of guilt”. “ I know it, now please go inside and have your shower”. 1.5 years after this amazing Thailand trip. Tiffany succumbed to cancer. Karla got a note engraved on her grave stone that read - “In memory of a dumb blonde who could outsmart the wisest of wizards.” |
