Footprints of Giants

Myles L. Edmundson

Inspired by the Ground Zero Memorial

The morning dawned, the planes took off.

Hijacked all, to their deaths they flew.

Murderers took them, into weapons made them.

Their faith drove them, their hate blinded them.

Their victims were people...innocent...with lives.

The planes hit the towers, the pentagon, the forest.

A great fire began, the towers burned.

One plane alone, its target was missed.

One group of people, the murders they fought.

The murderers crashed the plane, the brave people were killed.

The brave people died, but the murderers failed.

One target was saved, its cruel fate avoided

One target stood, yet a grievous wound it took.

Yet the towers burned, and people died.

Then the towers fell, and our hope seemed lost.

The responders searched, the families cried...and prayed.

Ten years have passed, our dead are mourned.

But the towers are gone, the wreckage cleared away.

A memorial now exists, where the towers once stood.

But the towers are gone, only the foundations remain.

There are great holes in the ground, where the towers once stood.

Yet the towers are gone, leaving only the footprints of giants.
