A free verse poem about how my insomnia affects me.
I look out my window, to see my reflection.

My artificial light binds me to stay.

The view is black, with stars in the air,

and our moon hiding another half.

The trees fade in the view, and the neighbors

ward off predators with their artificial light, as well.

I turn around, and stare into an empty TV.

Looking around, I notice tiny bugs dancing around my light.

Simple creatures, addicted to my light, with no cause.

As I, a meal worthy of their survival can not draw them away.

So I turn around, and look out the window, the sky has turned blue,

and the moon moves too, saying “Hey we all must go some day.”

And I turn away, thinking: “What to do, with what is left?”

Train to fight?

Learn to love?

Study to succeed?

Auto-correct another error?

Question my loss of interest in music?

And other tedious, simple questions, with even duller answers,

Fill my draining mind, as I stand to see a lighter shade of blue fill the sky.

The trees, turn brown, and green. Animals awake early to find another meal.

Birds with red on their tummy, pick at multiplying insects.

Squirrels run around, gathering, playing.

Stopping to listen if I’m a threat behind my glass.

Around again, I spin. The darkness would not let me sleep, so now

Day won’t let me find peace.
