Have you ever felt left out or that you didn't belong?
Once more, I make my way past the melancholy faces
I grasp a few strong breaths as I try to rush as much as I can
to the front of the line
I am stopped suddenly.
"You cannot go in ma'am"
Why won't they let me in?
I want to see inside
I turn around and want to disappear, become invisible to the world
I am secluded, like the other select few
I turn to one of them
"We are just as good as them," I say
They will have to let us in someday, right?!"
The one I have spoken to gives me a somber look
I look deep in to their eyes and feel the sorrow, feel their pain
I know it all too well, or do I?
Me and my fellow outsiders can do nothing but stare inside the grand building
only dreaming of what it would be like
They look so happy and cheerful, we say. And they have many friends.
I look towards my fellow friends and tell them "We don't have to be like them, or even pretend to be like them," I say quietly.
"It is us who must find a way to be happy just like them, but not regret or be ashamed of who we are.
If we don't "fit-in" because we are not like them, we should not turn our backs or become burdened with sadness.
We are unique in our own ways,
It's not worth giving up our own identities to feel like we belong
We do belong, and we have each other."
