They brought you home, but I didn’t want you here.
I had missed my dear dog Lizzy for over a year.
I was up late the night before and wanted rest.
Instead I woke to you sniffing around on my chest.
Two days, I kept distance between you and I.
But time passed and the weekend ended, by and by.
The two of us were alone for the first time.
I avoided you as if you had committed a crime.
But you kept at it and stayed close to my side.
Whether I wanted you or not I could not hide.
You bombarded me with your unconditional love.
Tried so hard to show me we fit like a hand in a glove.
When I sat down you jumped up into my lap.
You were sweet to me though I acted like I’d snap.
Slowly but surely your love wore away my wall.
You found my heart and answered it’s lonely call.
My heart you’ve stolen away and healed it too.
The puppy I thought I did not want is you.
Now I open my heart and hold you in my arms.
I admit to loving you and your furry charms.
