Standing alone beneath a black umbrella
I’ve given up looking for another fella
Of course, I am still under the weather
Where nothing ever gets any better
Splashed by a jerk who ran through a puddle
An action that was none too subtle
Though I did not bend nor did I buckle
I threw caution to the wind and extended a knuckle
Lucky for me I remembered my rain boots
So I hurried along taking different routes
Out of the grey came a towering tsunami
It carried me away as I was screaming "Mommy!"
When I washed up, I was surrounded by mud
My clothes were torn and I was covered in blood
No bones were broken but nothing felt right
I had a feeling getting home would take me all night
Down a darkened path with no moon in the skies
I hitched up my skirt and wiped at my eyes
It was such a surprise that I hadn’t drowned
Hope was a whisper that said I’d be found
Morning broke and I was free from the downpour
If it weren’t for my spirit I would have been done for
Never again will I give up and resign
Neither under threat of rain nor promise of sunshine
