It has often puzzled my mind, as to why we love and care for others more than we do ourselves, is it our conditioning? Is it our way of making ourselves feel better about who we are? It is my belief and not necesssary the beliefs of others that we can not love anyone until we learn to love ourselves first. If we loved ourselves more or cared more about who we are and who we are becoming, we would and could share more of ourselves with another with out feeling like we are being cheated, or sacrificing ourselves for another which only leads to unhealthy relationships, no matter what kind of relationships. Why do some people suffer from low self-esteem? lack of self-confidence? self loathing? guilt? shame? this is to just name a few, why? if we loved ourselves more we could perhaps be more aware of the hurt and pain we cause another to feel, loving oneself helps us to be more kinder, considerate, affectionate towards others which could possibly lead us towards a better future for all.
