“Vapor” by sbemail

Not all together,
Not all here;
A mist. A vapor
Walking among the physical world,
With tangible people.

Talking to them,
Laughing with them,
Arguing with them.
But never all together with them.

Never feeling as though I truly belong
On Earth, but rather in the heavens,
With the other vapors.

They are real for a day,
And they come to the physical world,
Falling from the clouds, and gather
Together to create a force
Strong enough to move mountains.

They have their moment, their glory,
Before they succumb to the River of Time,
And are returned to the clouds where they belong.

I am not like them.
I, unlike them, spend all my dusty days on the Earth.
I, unlike them, live in the physical realm.
I, unlike them am ne’er a part of it.

I am a shade, walking the Earth.
Touchable, not tangible. Seeable, not feasible.
I haunt these grounds until the time comes
For me to return, to Heav’n or Hell, I know not.

I am paralyzed by day,
Thriving in the Night,
Making its music
To mine own delight.

That someone could see the wretched creature I am.
A haunted face implanted on my soul.

I am ever-shifting, like the sands of Egypt.
Never the same, today or tomorrow.
You could never understand me,
Only two people ever could.

One has left me,
To seek her own fate.
And the very thought of her
Fills my heart with pain.

The other, and the Greater,
‘S as good as gone.
I have not felt Him in so long.
If thinking of Her brings me pain,
Then thinking of Him brings me death.
I am left to laugh in my loneliness.

I am a vapor and cannot be felt
I am a vapor and cannot be held
I am a vapor, for the rest of my days
And because of my sin, I cannot be saved.
