She Waits
By: Shawndra Gonzales
She is waiting alone.
He said he'd be there.
She drinks a little coffee,
Reads a line or two,
But the words all run together.
Waiting takes forever.
Still, she waits for him.
He said he'd be there.
Another drink of coffee,
Although it's gotten cold.
She looks at her watch,
Out the window, at the door...
The time has come and gone
When he said he'd be there.
She'll wait a little longer,
Cold coffee, lonely chair.
