A poem that I wrote in High school. It helped me get through some things.
When every birthday's wish
Revolves around the one thing
Missing from your life
It takes a toll on you.

When every candle blown out
Is another candle wasted
On the same silly wish
You know won't come true.

When every prayer at night
Becomes the same wish
And you don't have to say it
Because you've said it so many times
And you think that God will help you
Because that's what you've been told.
You want to believe
In something so bold!

But when the wish comes true.
When the prayer is answered.
You think everything's alright.
But moments only last so long.
Nothings ever what it seems.

When the day finally comes
And your heart finally breaks again,
Because all those birthday wishes
and all those prayers to god
Is finally leaving you again.
Leaving behind a broken daughter
Only a shell of what you once were.

What you feel?
Is anger towards a god
That you put so much belief in.
Anger towards those candles.
The flames that blew out too soon.
Lost is what you feel,
But hope is there somewhere.

Hoping for a chance he may come back again
That he may realize what he lost.
But wishes are just candles;
Candles are just flames.
