A poem I wrote about my experiences at the R.Y.P.E.N camp of 2010. |
I came from a place Where it was hard to find love And going at a pace That was like lightning from above I arrived at a camp My expectancy was low But as daylight doth a lamp So the reality out glowed I met some interesting youth And we instantly hit off I thought about telling them the truth But I didn't want to scare them off As the night moved along I got to know them more Like a nightingale in full song I knew there was more there then what I saw Dawn saw standing Honoring the sun as it rose From this camp I was hoping for a safe landing My feelings were already had enough to compose As the day moved on I had a lot fun My spirit no more weight a tonne I was feeling as bright as the sun Still my past haunted me My troubles, feelings and hurts were torture But when I was with them I was free I know I am still a learner Day moved into night And we all got talking a lot Like about one's troubles and fights And about whether one's undies were supportive or not After awhile things procressed And while some were verbally lancing A skill I just had to profess And that skill was one of dancing I specifically stated I could do the waltz And one put up her hand to learn Yes she made a couple of faults But in the end we started to sway and turn A speaker came and a speaker went Things started to get a bit colder Some realized here an eternity could be spent And the night grew older and older Bouncing and chocolate eating Feeling a bit hyper after the lollies Thinking of friends I've been meeting Sharing laughs and several follies The next day saw us soaring to new heights Swinging through the air with the greatest of ease Some of us believed they could fly For others, to stop, among other things, was their pleas This camp has truly enriched my life But what happens after really depends I hope we can all help each other through strife And from now till forever be great friends. |
