line count 31

Today America remembered Apollo 11, but part of America remembered a love that held our family together. The story told each generation.by parents lovers children and dear friends. She was a pretty blonde running from city life. Melissa thought this small town reminded her of a painting in grandmas kitchen. Jack, who ran the local diner was very nice and did not ask too many questions as long as she showed up on time and kept the glasses of tea full. The excitement was filing the diner tonight everyone waiting for Apollo 11 to give us hope after the loss of our 35 Th President of the United States. He cursed as he dropped the wrench for the third time. Ray knew it was time to go home but the lonly silence there was overwhelming.Since tonight was possibly memorable occasion,if these guys landed on the moon, maybe he would go across the street and grab a bite. Ray and he father had ran a local gas station and garage unti Pops died. Looking up at the gorgeous white pearl, he dreamed of what life would be if dad were still here. The growling in his stomach was getting louder. He looked across the street and seen her standing in the window looking up at the same beauty he was admiring. For a moment, their eyes met. Wow he wondered where did she come from, he turned and looked at the 4 cars parked in the garage and realized it has been awhile since he had eaten anything other than bologna sandwiches. The time just kept ticking away as the small cafe buzzed with excitement. Several men had gathered at the back corner booth discussing the possibilities of Mr. Armstrong walking on the moon. Jack had set his own personal television on the counter by the register giving everyone a decent view of the historic moment taking place. After making another round checking on her customers, she told Jack she was stepping out for some air. Sitting on the picnic table out front she lit a cigarette and then looked to see no one was watching her. Someone was, Ray was walking over to the diner after closing the station when he seen her. Every step he took closer his heart beat faster. What is wrong with me? He asked himself. Finally, as he reached the curb he had the courage to say hello. She jumped up dropped her cigarette stomped it out and excitedly said hi. She walked in and went straight back to the bathroom to pull herself together. Where did he come from and most importantly why was she flustered over this guy? They had only spoken one word to each other. She washed her hands and returned to the front. Everyone gathered around the small black and white t.v. Hoping she had not missed anything she hurried over to the crowd and ducked her head under an arm, so she could see the screen. Ray felt her shoulders resting softly against his arms, his attention focused on her now. Her hair looked so soft he just wanted to reach out and run his fingers through her long stands of hay colored hair. Finally his concentration was broke by the sound of those famous words that still touch our hearts today. Complete silence overtook the little cafe everyone just stared at the small screen for a few moments. Grandpa would recall everyone initial shock then emotions flowed heavily, there wasn't a dry eye in the building. Once everyone calmed down Melissa noticed she was still physically close to Ray and how she didn't feel the need to move. Forty years later the two have shared stories of how their love grew from a monumental night in history. The story goes after the landing on the moon Ray and Melissa spent the rest of the evening discussing their lives and how events led them to share a love of the moon, America and dreams of life and love. word count 666
