work in progress. about love and the stars.
I imagine you,
a child,
searching the night-sky,
seeking asterisms through the small hole
of your telescope.
What did you find?
All the ancient stories of the stars?

Oh how we seek order!
Words to sew together even these distant fiery orbs
lightyears away from each other
in space.
But the stories are lovely, aren't they?

Looking at the heavens
I see the myths manifest:
summertime, Eos and Orion reaching-
the lovers reunite
after the long months
of icy separation,
her rosy fingers scatter sparks through the night.

And, oh, my Andromeda!
I see her chained
as the tide rises and chills her veins,
the kelp braids around her long legs,
and the monster waits in the dead depths.
Yes, to think of a man indeed.

Little one, your Castor and Pollux are there too.
Though the flowered and fruit-bearing Earth
may fix their bones
the beseeching brother won out:
they live together in the stars forever.

Did you see this?
Did these celestial stories pour in through your tiny lens?
I think not.
I imagine you stunned and staring and small
beneath the vast heavens
seeing that it is enough for it to be
beautiful, and endless.
