Sexual abuse suffered as a child
There was a little girl
who loved to dance and sing
she closed her eyes and admired
the beauty in every living thing.
She danced with the wind and
let it carry her secrets to the skies.
This little girl loved her world
And everything that inhabited it.
Her life was a fairy tale, where
Men were princes and women
Were queens.

She held the little things close
to her heart and kept her little life
neat and peaceful; she admired the ant and had a love for the sea.
One day a powerful force
called man entered her life
and she was forever changed.

She played her usual game of
tag with the friends she'd made
up in her mind, and the man stood
by and watched her, waiting for her to
let him in to her child heart.
He knew she would do it.
She was so open.

She smiled sweetly and pushed
her black locks away from her
almond eyes and called for him
to join.

He knelt beside her and took
her hand and he watched as her
eyes sparked with excitement.
She’d found a new friend.

Her new friend told her tales,

of things she’d never heard.
Stories she couldn’t have imagined
and gave her dreams she never
thought possible.

Her new friend became her best friend
although many warned against him.
She learned to trust her new friend
although he never told her his name.

One day her new friend told her,
he had a new game to play.
He told her to lie down
quietly and promise not to scream.
The little girl was confused,
but she trusted her friend.
He rested his body on top of hers,
his pale green eyes locked onto hers,
her eyes full of tears as she tried to
keep her promise.

He slowly removed her
pure white dress and touched
her body slowly. He moved his body
to the place between her legs
and then she started screaming.

Her friend, he hit her and hit her until
she bled, from her nose, her eyes and
little lips. She’d broken her promise.
He pushed, she cried.
He pushed, she died.
The little girl lay there,
underneath her friend.

As he pushed and pulled
his way into her.
The little girl closed her eyes.
Praying that she never opened them again.
But her silent prayer was not answered,
and when she did open her eyes,
she still lived in a fairy tale where
women were witches
and men were dragons.
