Written from the heart.
Guilt coils around your body
Suffocating and smothering you
Like a giant cobra
You struggle and you protest
As if you are stuck in quick sand
Slowly being sucked into a dark abyss

You need to stop, take stock
Don’t let the Guilt win
Breathe deeply, in and out
Letting the air flow through your lungs
Feel your body opening from its captivity
Don’t fight it, relax and let the healing begin

Gradually the darkness will lift but not overnight
Guilt lurks to catch you in your most vulnerable moments
Build a shield not a wall to help you fight it
So you can let those in who care for you
Then you will gather strength from their embraces
Take time for yourself but don’t hide away

Guilt’s hold can be broken with patience and love
